Hello everyone!
Welcome to our latest wellbeing check‑in blog here at SDC‑LEARN where we encourage you to take a moment to check in with your mental wellbeing and have a read through!
Work‑based learning can be exciting, but it can also feel stressful, tiring or a bit overwhelming at times. You’re learning new skills, meeting new people and trying to figure out your place in the world — that’s a lot for anyone. This wellbeing check‑in highlights a fantastic online resource (COPE Scotland) which is all about helping you look after yourself while you’re juggling everything else in life.
One of the biggest things we can learn from organisations like COPE Scotland is that self‑care doesn’t need to be complicated. It’s not about fancy routines or expensive products. It’s about small things that help you feel more in control: taking a breather when your head feels full, stepping outside for a few minutes during lunch, or giving yourself permission to rest after a long shift. These tiny moments can make a real difference to your energy and your mood.
Another important part of staying well is connection. When you’re busy working or training, it’s easy to drift into your own bubble. But talking to someone — a friend, a colleague, a family member — can help you feel grounded. Even a quick chat can remind you that you’re not dealing with everything on your own. And if you ever feel unsure about something at work or in your course, reaching out for support is a strength, not a weakness.
Confidence can also take a hit when you’re learning something new. It’s normal to doubt yourself or worry about making mistakes. But confidence grows through practice, encouragement and noticing the things you are doing well. Celebrate the small wins — turning up on time, asking a question, finishing a task you weren’t sure about. These moments build up over time.
And don’t forget kindness, especially towards yourself. You’re learning, you’re growing and you’re figuring things out. Be patient with yourself. Treat yourself the way you’d treat a friend who’s trying their best. Remember that community matters. Whether it’s your workplace or the people around you, being part of something can help you feel supported and motivated.
